Course Overview

This 4-day Level 3 qualification covers all aspects of BS 5839-1:2025, giving delegates a clear understanding of standards and legislation relating to fire detection and fire alarm systems.

The programme is designed to meet the knowledge requirements of the relevant standards of the BAFE SP203-1 scheme as well as the new Level 3 EAL exam. It is suitable for both new and experienced technicians who are responsible for design, installation, commissioning, or maintenance of fire alarm systems in non-domestic premises.

Design and legislation

Understand how BS 5839-1:2025 is applied in practice and learn to complete compliant, non-complex designs for non-domestic premises. This includes category selection, zoning, detection types, and documentation.

Installation

Gain a full understanding of cable types, device placement, wiring methods, and installation practices in line with BS 5839-1:2025. Learn how to install systems correctly to support reliable commissioning and long-term performance.

Commissioning

Learn how to commission both addressable and non-addressable fire alarm systems, carry out functional testing, verify cause-and-effect, and complete the necessary certification and handover documentation.

Maintenance

Build competence in routine inspection and maintenance, including periodic testing, defect recording, reporting, and record-keeping requirements for non-domestic premises.

Practical sessions
