The terms governing your use of The British Fire Consortium's website and services.

Effective date: 1 January 2025

1. Introduction

These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of the website and services provided by The British Fire Consortium ("BFC", "we", "us", or "our"). By accessing our website or using any of our services, including membership, training courses, and events, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, you should not use our website or services.

2. About the BFC

The British Fire Consortium was founded in 1983 and is a voluntary organisation dedicated to supporting fire safety companies through education, training, accreditation, and professional networking. Our services are designed to help members improve their skills, competence, and industry standing.

3. Membership

Membership of the BFC is subject to acceptance of an application and payment of the applicable membership fee. By applying for membership, you agree to:

  • Provide accurate and up-to-date information in your application
  • Pay all membership fees promptly when due
  • Comply with our code of conduct and professional standards
  • Use the BFC member badge only in accordance with our brand guidelines
  • Notify us of any material changes to your business or contact details

The BFC reserves the right to refuse, suspend, or terminate membership at its discretion, including where a member fails to meet the required standards or breaches these Terms.

4. Training & Courses

Training courses offered by the BFC are subject to availability. By booking a course, you agree to the following:

  • Course fees must be paid in full prior to attendance unless otherwise agreed
  • Cancellations made fewer than 14 days before the course start date may incur a cancellation fee
  • The BFC reserves the right to cancel or reschedule courses, in which case a full refund or alternative date will be offered
  • Certification is awarded at the discretion of the accrediting body (e.g., EAL) and is subject to successful completion of all assessments
  • Course materials are provided for personal use only and may not be copied, distributed, or reproduced

5. Booking Terms

Please note the following when booking a training course with the BFC:

  • Submitting a booking form does not automatically guarantee you a place on your chosen course. You will be advised about availability of places upon submission.
  • If you are accepted onto a course, completion of the form commits you to the course and any requests for cancellation must be made in writing (email is acceptable).

Cancellation Policy:

  • Requests received 30 days or more before the course incur a 25% course fee, or alternatively this will be waived if the booking is transferred to the next available course.
  • Regrettably, requests received within 30 days of the course cannot be accommodated and will still incur a 100% course fee; however, delegate substitution will be allowed.
  • The BFC reserves the right in absolute discretion to cancel any course without further liability — fees will be refunded or an alternative date offered.

6. Use of the BFC Member Badge

The BFC member badge is provided to active members in good standing for use on websites, vehicles, and marketing materials. Use of the badge is governed by the following conditions:

  • The badge may only be used by current, paid-up members
  • The badge must not be altered, distorted, or used in any misleading manner
  • Use of the badge must cease immediately upon termination or lapse of membership
  • The BFC retains all intellectual property rights in the badge design

7. Website Use

You may use our website for lawful purposes only. You must not:

  • Use the website in any way that breaches applicable local, national, or international law
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to our systems, servers, or databases
  • Introduce viruses, malware, or other malicious code
  • Scrape, reproduce, or republish website content without our prior written consent

8. Intellectual Property

All content on this website, including text, images, logos, training materials, and branding, is the intellectual property of The British Fire Consortium or its licensors. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or use any content without our prior written consent, except where expressly permitted.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the BFC shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of our website or services. Our total liability in connection with any claim shall not exceed the amount of fees paid by you in the twelve months preceding the claim.

10. Indemnification
